In alignment with Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 92, our organization has introduced Indigenous Awareness Training for non-Indigenous employees. This initiative aims to foster a more respectful, inclusive, and culturally informed workplace. Call to Action 92 urges the corporate sector to provide equitable, respectful opportunities for Indigenous communities by building awareness and understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and perspectives. By introducing this training, we are taking a meaningful step towards supporting these principles of reconciliation.

The training program is self-guided and provides employees with valuable insights into the unique contributions, histories, and current realities of Indigenous Peoples.

Key topics include:

  • Historical Context: Understanding the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities.

  • Indigenous Resilience and Contributions: Learning about the rich cultural heritage and ongoing contributions of Indigenous Peoples to our society.

  • Building Respectful Relationships: Guidance on fostering meaningful, inclusive relationships with Indigenous colleagues, partners, and communities.

Through this initiative, we aim to:

  • Enhance Cultural Awareness: By equipping our team with an informed understanding of Indigenous experiences and perspectives, we support a more inclusive workplace culture.

  • Advance Reconciliation and Respect: Our efforts are part of a broader commitment to reconciliation and creating respectful, supportive spaces for Indigenous Peoples.

  • Fulfill ESG and SDG Goals: This initiative also aligns with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

Through our commitment to implementing Call to Action 92, we strive to create lasting social impact within our organization and beyond, reinforcing our responsibility to reconciliation and empowering our team with knowledge to build a more just and equitable future. We will continue to expand and evolve this training, strengthening our engagement with Indigenous communities and deepening our commitment to social responsibility and inclusivity.
